Quick update

That's right folks, I finally got my dunedain! I have pictures of them, but until I can find my USB wire I cannot upload them! Not to be too discouraged, this is only a brief update. Me and my friend played a good game of Lord of the Rings recently, and it saw a Cave troll barging forwards, picking up Legolas and hurling him at Aragorn and Frodo, making them both suffer a wound! Another notable moment was Boromir hacking down no less than 5 Goblins 1vs5 without Boromirs horn of Gondor! It was indeed a great game that I managed to snap a few photos of, and will upload in the next post!

So, keep your eyes peeled on this Blog, some juicy stuff coming soon!

Half Orc WIP

Hello everyone,

This week i've been painting. A lot. I've been working through my box of Wood Elves, and also started painting a few members of the Fellowship. I've been recently putting together an idea as mentioned in a previous post, involving the Half Orc/Southerners that where likely involved in the Ambush on the way to Weathertop Scenario. So below I present, my first half orc (before washes etc).

As you can see it is a very simple concept, i've snipped the end of the spear off and painted him with scruffy greens and browns to give him a rough look. The 'Spear' has now become a 2 handed club/large stick which will count as a 2 handed weapon. This should give them a bit of an edge when they win a fight against Aragorn!

Also planned, I will be attempting to convert a goblin shield warrior to be holding just his sword, with no shield to act as the 1 handed brigands! As well as painting up bow men in the same scheme (this I have already started). I'm even thinking of getting a model to be Bill Ferny, and giving it a special rule to make the scenario more interesting, after all, a greedy, cruel human being such as Bill Ferny is likely to do anything for wealth and / or power!

Two handed, stick holding Half Orc

And the back.
I think these make interesting little troops, as they come in to play quite a bit in The Fellowship, if I wanted to add multiple custom scenarios to my playthrough, or as standalone scenarios. For example, What is to stop these half-orc creatures impeding the Hobbits on their way from Maggots farm to the Buckleberry ferry? Or even later on as the Fellowship breaks and branches off in different directions, when the Rangers leave to find Aragorn, what is to step them, along with forces from Angmar from terrorizing Bree and the surrounding villages of Breeland, such as Archet in the Chetwood just to the East of Bree? And it was also mentioned in the books that some of these creatures in league with Saruman were present at the Battle of the Hornburg, along with Uruks and Wild men, so they can also come in to play there. So, as you can see they can come in to play in a variety of different situations. I'm going to paint up hopefully 10 with bow, 10 with sword and 10 with two handed weapons, this way there is enough of them for small scenarios, but also enough to act as cannon fodder for Uruk-hai, or whatever else, which I'm sure is what Saruman would of intended them to be once he had bred his superior breed of evil.

So watch this space, I have quite a few blog posts to put up, but the earliest will be atleast a week from now. Thanks for reading, any criticism welcome as always.

Until next time...

Birthday spendings and a spot of painting

So after receiving a lot of money, 85% of it went straight into the bank (safest thing to do in my opinion) and I took £20 of my spending money to town, where, after a swift pint or two with friends I managed to pick up 3 pots of paint i've been needing for along time, Karak Stone (Kommando Khaki for Aragorn) Bestigor Flesh and Ratskin flesh (for faces) and a new brush. There was however, no Lord of the Rings in store! Drat! But not to fear, i'm placing an order through them online today, Game Emporium do a nice 20% off retail when ordered through them, which makes it £12 for a box of 12 troops, £6.82 for a box of three, etc... so now i'm stuck for choice. either a box or two of Dunedaine for the FOTR campaign i'm gathering for, or Wood Elf Sentinals for my core army. I'll soon figure it out, i'm leaning towards Dunedaine.

So, with no new models to paint that night, I started to work on an old, that has been sat in neglect due to fear of ruining it with an incorrect paint scheme. It's a simple enough to paint model, but I think it has to be done just right to do it justice. It is none other than the Nazgul. So I set to work, basing him with Abadon Black, and a very (very) light dusting of Codex Grey (I forgot the new name) and so far i'm impressed. I'd say I need another dusting perhaps, to give the model a shine, and a dusting of brown at the bottom of the cloak, to account for the miles and miles the Ringwraith travel. So below, is some shots of my Nazgul as it is now.
The Front.

And the back

Back Again

And compared to the pre-painted one.

I don't think it has turned out to bad to say it's my first time painting metal, and I managed to drybrush a little better than usual, but we'll see when it's done.

I've also started a minor conversion. I remember an old White Dwarf Lotr Sbg scenario depicting Aragorn, and the four hobbits ambushed on their way to Weathertop by some rough men, spies/brigands of Sauron. Obviously this doesn't happen in the book or the film but I think it's an interesting little scenario and I'm going to add it in to my Fellowship of the Ring run through. Now, deprived of Ruffian minatures, instead I've cut off the tip of a Moria Goblin spear, and painted him with regular Fleshy colours, grey hair, and matted, scruffy greens and browns as clothing. Pictures to come in following post.

Thanks for reading,

And until next time.

Brandon's birthday bash!

So today, is my 18th birthday! And to celebrate, i've been out for a nice meal at Frankie and Bennies (can hardly move now, let me tell you). And i've got two Lord of the Rings related gifts! A map of Middle Earth for my wall, which shows EVERYWHERE! From the Trollshaws to Midgewater Marshes. This was from my girlfriend, and I am very pleased with it! I can see myself pouring over this map quite often! Amongst the other gifts were a Batman arkham Origins poster, a 'Top Dog' cup! (useful for holding tea whilst I paint!) and a bag of deodorants and body washes (hint hint, I assume!).

Below, a Bag End themed cake, showing Frodo and Gandalf stood outside, I am very very impressed with what my mother managed to make, and it is delicious!

I didn't receive any Hobby goods, however I asked that I didn't receive any, as i'd rather have a few surprises instead! So tomorrow, i'm off with a nice sum to pick up some paints and figures! So stay tunes to see what I manage to buy. Ah yes, I almost forgot! The other Lord of the Rings gift was The Return of the King PS2 game, which i've been after for many a month! very happy indeed!

So watch this space and expect a post tomorrow, with the goodies I've bought, and my painted Ringwraith shall be on show!

I return... Empty handed.

Well, I'm back from Cornwall, and what a holiday! It was great fun, and it only rained one day out of the 12 we stayed, so most of the time was spent surfing, and swimming in the ocean! Whilst down there, I visited three major shopping places; The Wharf side shopping centre in Penzance, Falmouth's main street, and St Ives which has many shops on the way down to the beautiful sandy beach. However, search as I may I could not find a single hobby shop! I had intended to spend at least £20 on hobbying things for when I got back, but couldn't find a thing. With terrible signal and internet where I stayed (The Lizard) I was forced to go to an Internet cafe next to the campsite we stayed at, to search for a nearby Gamesworkshop. The odd thing is, I could only find one, 53 miles away... very strange. Oh well, all is not lost. Now I'm back, I intend to get a move on with the hobby, and paint up the remaining models I have, which means I must force myself to not give in and buy more models! My new tactic, is to make sure I have as much paint as possible, allowing me to always be sure I can paint my new minatures to at least a table top standard.

With builders coming and going in my parents house at the moment (Having the kitchen, and bedrooms redone) I've managed to finally get hold of some of the sacred, elusive material that is Extruded Polystyrene, which means I can crack on with making some terrain at last.

And the next few weeks, before college returns, Bethen has agreed to play a few scenario's with me, such as Balin's tomb, and the Flight to Buckleberry ferry.

And that is it really! Though it may not be Wargaming related, I will post pictures of my holiday for those that wish to look.

Watch this space,

Until next time...

A bit of a battle report

With the weather being so beautiful today, I thought, why not get the board out and have a game on the garden?
So me and my girlfriend did.

We took the board onto the grass, through on some bits of flint, and some clumps of grass to make a makeshift board till I get round to making a proper one.

Bare in mind I didn't take pictures of every turn, as the pictures would simply look repetitive, and I did not set out to destroy my girlfriend, as she is still new to the game and requires a bit of help now and then. I am however, very impressed with how she did!

Now, the scenario was just, set out to destroy every part of the enemy force. I did not bother with testing for breaking for this scenario. The backstory:

After fleeing to Lothlorien, The Fellowship all get a chance to rest their aching bones. However, a few hours later Aragorn and a small band of elves are leading a counter assault, in an attempt to deter the Goblin's vicious hunting instinct, and thus prevent an assault on Lorien.

I played as the Wood Elves, 2 with Elven blade, 2 with Spear and 2 with Bow,
As well as Aragorn. For the purpose of this being a sort of friendly match to get my girlfriend more acquainted to the rules, and with their being more models for her to manage, I didn't use Aragorn's mighty hero rule.

Bethen played the ravaging, roving horde of goblins which consisted of:
An assorted number of goblins with shield and sword, around 4-5
An assorted number of goblins with spear, again around 4-5
And 3-4 Goblins with bow.

Layout is as below:
The layout

Woodelves

Goblins

Turn one, priority: Goblins.

The Goblins continue their reckless hunt, as the goblins on all sides bolt forward, apart from two lonely spearmen who stay back.
The horde chittering forward, nasty black speech filling the air.
I moved my Elves forward and had an archer attempt to climb a rock, but to my dismay, the Elf failed his climbing test! And plumets backwards, and landing in the grass. How embarrassing.
Falling to the 'Anything but a one!' trap
However else where, the other Elf goes to the other extreme, and leaps up the rock with ease, readying an arrow as he sings songs of Elbereth.
Showing up the other elf!
Onto the shooting phase and the Archer rolls a 4 to hit, but only rolls a 2, when a 3 is needed to kill a goblin spearman, the arrow clattering off the crude armour.
Close, but no kill.
Turn two and the front lines clash as the Goblins gain priority again, a Swordsman being charged by a goblin, and Aragorn being charged by three. An Elven spearman moves in to support the swordsman, as a Goblin archer takes position on a rock. The two Goblin Spearmen at the back move forward, ready to engage next turn.
Battle is joined

Aragorn, his skill far surpassing that of mere Goblins, whirls his sword about and dispatches three Goblins. However, the lone goblin beats back the two Elves and manages to dispatch the swordsman!
Elven Casualties

Goblin Casualties.
From here, unfortunately a few of the photo's went missing, so I shall do my best to fill in the gaps and explain what transpired over the next few turns:
Aragorn continues his rampage and fells a few more Goblins, curses from foul language penetrating the air as they fall.

The Goblins wipe out the right hand side of Elves, and the left Elven Archer on the rock is shot down, but not before the combined might of the two Elven archers dispatch all of the Goblin archers and a few spearmen.

And then we come to this:

This, this is how it looked by turn 5.

Goblin casualties.

Elven Casualties.
After this, the Elves were felled in combat, and all but one remained, along with Aragorn, who had one wound, no fate, no might left. Three Goblins were left on the board, and what happened?...

Aragorn fluffs his rolls! and is quickly dispatched.
How things looked on the last turn.
And with that, Bethen wins the game! A fun scenario, and I will definitely never underestimate goblin archery, or up close fighting again! I do not come away from the game with nothing though, as I definitely have a better understanding of what the Wood Elves are capable of, and thoroughly enjoyed playing as them. Next time, I would be less hesitant to charge in, due to that low defence of 3, if you lose a fight then you're in for a rough time.

Bethen did very well, and though her losses were great she managed to make short work of me over time. She employed a very sneaky tactic towards the end, where I expected her to charge Aragorn, but instead went around him and into the Archer, killing off my last ranged supporter for the game, which played a part in hammering the last nail into my coffin.

It was a very fun game to play, and we are already discussing a larger scale game, with High Elf support, and Cave troll + Warg support. It looks to be a fun game, which shall be played when we get back from Holiday.

That's right, I'm off on Holiday to the beautiful Lizard Point of Cornwall tomorrow!. It is a nice spot, and has easy access to all the best beaches and shopping towns in the area! So whilst I'm soaking up the sun rays, I shall be re-prioritizing what I need to get hobby wise!

Thanks for the read, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it, and until next time...

Wood Elf Warriors, Defenders of Lothlorien/Mirkwood arrive!

A few weeks ago I messaged Dan at the local games store, 'Games Emporium' and was told I could have a 20% discount off of anything ordered through them, from Games Workshop Lord of the Rings related, and 10% Hobbit related. Well, Having £12 I thought why not get something that will benefit me in what I most want to do at the moment, and so I did. and here it is, a box of 12 Wood elf Warriors!

The reason I got these are as follows:

  • I intend to collect Wood elves for when I play competitively, and since I have Legolas I am now one warband closer to that army.

  • It will help in the Fellowship journey book scenario, as Haldir and 6 elves appear later on in the book.

  • And, I got the go ahead from Bethen, as she likes elves.

  • Not to mention they'll appear in a number of scenarios in the future.
So, onto the review:

So far, I'm impressed by the initial unboxing of the warriors, a few poses seem a bit odd, but nothing I can't live with.

I do have a few favourite poses, and one which I'm considering to convert, as it makes a good looking 'captain' pose.

There wasn't too much excess plastic etc that needed to be removed, so I was quite happy about that.

I shall go through a few poses in the pictures below.
Wood elf Warriors box, £12 not £15!

And the back
Preparing to shoot down an approaching Goblin!

And on his own

One of my favourite poses, you can just make out, that he is aiming up with his bow, and this makes a change compared to the normal, aiming straight forward pose. Shooting at a bat swarm eh?!

Bit blurry, but an Elf swordsman

And elf spearman, driving back the hordes of Sauron

This, is my favourite pose. For one he looks like he's calling the rest of the Elves into battle, and for this reason I am going to cut off an Elven blade at some point, and put it into his other hand. Then through the use of Greenstuff, give him a few other bits and bobs, to make him stand out as a Wood Elf Captain.
Sadly, this does mean the end of buying minatures for awhile. I need to obtain the rest of the paints needed to paint the Fellowship (The four hobbits are now finished, pictures in a subsequent post) and paint is also required for the Cave Troll. Then, I shall perhaps come to painting these elves. However, with my holiday to Cornwall approaching in the next week and a half or so, I can feel a trip to the Helston gaming store to spend some money on some minatures, or perhaps Bethen will surprise me for my birthday with some Uurk-hai scouts that she knows I need for the scenario's. Only time will tell.

I will finish assembling these when I return home around Wednesday, and post pictures then.

Thanks for reading,

Until next time.

Painting a few more models (WIP)

Recently i've had spare time, and so I got to work finishing a few Goblins of Moria. Now, they aren't 'finished' so to say. I've painted them, but need to go back and clean them up, and paint over any bits i've missed. As you can see in the pictures below, some of their arms aren't painted to a good enough standard, and the red of their cloth sometimes runs on to the armour.

Then I got to work painting the hobbits. They are mostly done, the faces need painting, and a few other things but for the most part.

I've actually played the same scenario from my previous post another 4 times now, and it is damned hard to win as evil. With 4 will, you can't fire off too many spells, but you also can't stay in combat for too long without the aid of spells to make the Ringwraith more effective in combat! A tough one indeed.

Some of my Goblins, a few need cleaning up.

Please bare in mind, washes etc are still to be applied, as is the basing.
My 'to be painted' plate.

Battle Report! (no pictures)

Hey guys, hope you are all doing well.

Lastnight my girlfriend and I played a small battle on the 4x4 board i've recently been working on.  Sadly, I didn't feel the pictures would look so good as it's still missing terrain (bits of flint filled in as rocky mounds) and my hobbits aren't properly painted yet (about halfway there, just got a few minor bits left to do). But anyway, on to the report.

Participants:

Evil: 4 Ringwraith with 0M/4W/0F

Good:
Frodo baggins with Barrow blade (2strength instead of Sting's 3)

Sam with Barrow Blade and frying pan (useful for cooking some nice sausage and bacon on the go!)

Pippin with Barrow blade

Aragorn - Strider.

The backstory:
As Frodo, Sam and Pippin make there way through to Crickhollow, they are beset by Ringwraiths arriving from two different directions. Not known to the hobbits, Strider is nearby and hears the wails of the Nazgul, and rushes to help them.

So basically, a what if scenario where instead of Gildor, Strider happens to be patrolling the area instead. I didn't go rule heavy for this scenario, missing out courage checks for example, as it was an introductory scenario for my girlfriend, as we hadn't played except once, quite a while back.

The hobbits deploy on the west edge, and the objective was that Frodo is slain for the Ringwraith to win, or Frodo escapes off the East edge of the board to win.

I played Evil, and she played the forced of good, so without further a do:

Bethen rolled three dice for the three hobbits, and on a 4+ they could have one free move before the forces of evil arrive. Rolling a 5 for Frodo, 5 for Sam and 3 for Pippin, the two hobbits gingerly move forwards to the Eastern edge, whilst Pippin is distracted by some mushrooms.

Turn one: Priority: Evil.

Rolling a 4+ for each Ringwraith to arrive anywhere on the North and South edge of the board, only one arrives, filling the air with fell shrieks as he steps on to the North edge of the board, close to Sam and Frodo, and casts Compel on Frodo, moving him two inches towards the Ringwraith, ready to pounce the next turn!

Turn two: Priority: Good.

Sam swerves to the North moving at a diagnal line, whilst Frodo continues to run forwards to the Eastern edge. Pippin runs towards the ringwraith, blocking line of sight to Frodo.

No Ringwraith arrive this turn, so Pippin is charged by a lone Nazgul! However, Pippin may not be skilled with his blade, but that doesn't stop him flailing it around like a speed demon, in his panic to get away, and it is this unskilled act that stops the Ringwraith from being able to find an opening to strike down the hobbit.
However, Pippin is unable to land a killing blow (rolling a 6 and then a 4 is not easy!)

Turn 3: (from this turn onwards, Bethen could bring on Aragorn anywhere on the Eastern edge, with a dice roll of 4 or more!) Priority: Evil.

Rolling two 5's, a Ringwraith arrives on the North, and Southern edge of the boards. Frodo continues to hurry forwards, and Sam follows suit. Pippin is charged again by the wraith, and the second Northern wraith attempts to compel Sam away, but fails the spell. Again Pippin fights back the Wraith, but fails to land the telling blow again!

Turn 4: Priority: Evil.

No other Wraiths arrive this turn, and with one that has only one will remaining, it was now or never. I risked the will to cast Black dart at Frodo, and hits! But fate saves it (darn). However, both fate points were wasted on saving the wound.

The Ringwraith dissipates with a fell shriek, angering the other Wraith.

Again, Aragorn fails to show.

Pippin makes a break for the Eastern Edge, as do Frodo and Sam.

Turn 5: Priority: Good.

Aragorn arrives! However, Frodo now leaves the board. And that ends the scenario.

A nice simple scenario, which was a lot of fun. Things didn't go right for me at all, except in obtaining priority. Where I really needed them, the dice failed me!   But perhaps for next time I will try a more sneaky, ambush like approach.

Bethen did well, choosing when and where to move, and used some good techniques such as blocking line of sight to frodo, so he could not be hit by compel.

All in all, very fun. We plan on playing it again tonight, with her controlling the forces of Evil.

Thanks for reading, and watch this space for more!

Until next time.

Another update!

With my PC still being broken, I apologise for the lack of updates.

Whilst on the Facebook grop Orc-ward battles, a gaming shop not far from me (Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/102858379815743/?fref=ts) I met somebody who lives 10 minutes away who also plays Lord of the rings. So of course I messaged him and we both agreed to arrange a game for next week. A few moments later my girlfriend identified him, as her friends brother! Small world!
It goes without saying I am excited for my first sort of points match. But I realised, I have no heroes to lead my Goblins, and no heroes to lead my high elves (Or enough elves for that matter) So I've settled with The Fellowship.

We plan on 600 points, so my list is:

Legolas with elven cloak and armour - 105 ponts. My ranged aspect, 3 shots a turn against Mordor orcs and haradrim, or 1 shot a turn against Khamul+ The witch king. Armour makes him also more versatile, and can go toe to toe in melee now. Elven cloak is protection from spells.

Gandalf the grey - 170 points. A big amount of points! But with Aura of dismay, Mordor orcs will have a hard time charging. And with his versatile list of spells, what could go wrong?

Aragorn - strider with bow and armour - 185 points. Again, a massive amount but for me the armour is a must. 6Def will make a difference, and with a bow, a couple of pot shots every now and can't hurt.

Merry, Pippin and Sam - 50 points. Sam's extra might point may come in handy at some point, and these three will raise my model count. 3 of them swarming one foe may be useful, or to tie down an enemy hero for a turn. Also 3 stones thrown a turn if stood still, can be effective against low defence orcs.

Gimli - 90 points. Def 8, 3 attacks or 2 attacks with + 1 to wound. A great investment. Will be able to tank the stronger haradrim/easterlings.

So this is my list. Gimli, Aragorn and Gandalf on the front, the three hobbits and Legolas at the back. Any suggestions are welcome, but I'd have to drop either Gimli and two hobbits, or Legolas to include Boromir, which lowers my model count, or gets rid of my archer. This is why I have left him out.

On the terrain front, still can't find any extruded polystyrene... which is a big shame. I will continue to look.

However, my girlfriend and I have a little project going on where we are using bark off a tree, and painting it different greys to create big rocks, to use for certain scenarios. It is good to spend hobby time, with my girlfriend, it is more enjoyable, and she has agreed to play a few Fellowship scenarios with me, mainly the first few involving escaping Ringwraith, and some centred in Moria.

Painting, largely nothing has been painted. However, I am going to Nottingham with Bethen, her mother and mine this Friday, and I plan on getting all of the paints needed to paint the hobbits, now I know their new names!

So keep watching this space,

Until next time

Another bargain!(Video game)

Last night my girlfriend surprised me, and brought me home The Two Towers, for the Playstation 2.

I hadn't played it since I was around 7-8 and used to play it two player with my older cousin. It took me all of 5 seconds to remember 90% of the game and loved every second.

Now, an interesting thing is that, EA only obtained the rights to the movies, where as another company obtained rights to the book. The other company released 'The fellowship of the ring' which barred EA from releasing the same game. So, the first two movies are rolled up into this one game.

Legolas, battling orcs atop the Deeping wall.

Gimli, battling orcs in a village on the Plains of Rohan

The Fellowship fight for survival in Balin's tomb.

The game starts off at the battle of the Dagorlad, with Isildur marching towards Mount Doom. The movie then changes, and the scene is the exact same as the movie, but in the Video game's graphics settings, which is pretty cool.

Once you have done this sort of tutorial mission, you go on the real adventure. From Weathertop, to Balins Tomb, to the Westfold, To the battle of the Hornburg! and for 99p, how could you go wrong?

Definitely a fun little game, and I recommend those who haven't yet, to try it out!

Apologies

Hello all, I'm writing a quick update to apologise for the lack of content on this blog lately. My PC has ran into some problems, and probably won't be fixed for a week or two. Also, I'm preparing for the usual family holiday (with Bethen, my other half as well, of course.) to Cornwall for 2 weeks, in a few weeks time. So, hobby time is at a loss right now, as I'm busy shopping for clothes, and all other manners of things needed. I do however find time to sit down and paint one or two of the 50 odd Goblins I have left to paint.

So, do not abandon my blog please, I do enjoy blogging, but until I get my PC set up in a week or two I don't have access to Blogger often. But check back this weekend, as I have purchased a box of wood elf warriors, and some paints to paint my 4 hobbits, and maybe, just maybe if I can finish my board in time, a battle report of 'Shortcuts make long delays'! So watch this space!

Until next time.

Update!

Hi guys, these past few days I've been revising heavy for the exam I sat today. I think I did well, but I won't say that I DID do well, as it's come back to bite me in the past. So not too much done hobby wise. However, I have managed to paint up another 3 goblins, and base coat another 7. I've also bought 'Standard mechanised grey' I think its called? paint, which I'm hoping to paint Moria bases with, and rocks and such. I also bought the Fine Detail brush from the citadel range with a £2 discount from the local wargaming store, https://www.facebook.com/TheGamesEmporium?fref=ts which was a great bargain, and has been excellent in aiding me paint the goblins hand which holds the bow! Unfortunately I have not yet taken any photos, but will do once I have finished them fully.

On the terrain front, I'm struggling if I'll be honest, in getting hold of the material. I know it's Polystyrene I'm after, but I'm having trouble finding any... But I have had a go at painting some bark off a tree, which looks great when glued to another piece as a big rock, or a mountainy type of pass.

On the gaming front, nothing to report War game wise. However I have been ever tempted these past few days to get back in to my half completed Battle for middle earth campaign on the PC! Another distraction!

And finally, on the trade front this week, I've been asking around and seem to have found a deal for some Wild Wargs, since the last deal fell through.

So keep an eye out soon for pictures of some scurrying goblins, and I may even have a little surprise.

Until next time...

Painting and another expansion.

This week I went off to Nottingham with my girlfriend to spend all her Birthday money, which meant I could take a trip to Games Workshop. I must say the staff there weren't all too bad, and after asking for help on what brushes, paints etc to get, I came home with a standard brush, and all the paints necessary to paint Moria Goblins. I thought, To practice painting, why not paint lowly, cheap minions first rather than heroes, and mess up the paint job? Below is the first goblin I did.

I chose a sword and shield goblin, with a helmet. I began by base coating the figure in Abaddon black, and then (as best I could with just the standard brush) dry brushed the armour with Leadbelcher. Once this had dried, I went over the cloth with Khorne red, and the skin with War Boss Green mixed with Death World Forest. At the end, I mixed Mournfang brown with water, and very gently applied it onto the shield, helmet and leg to give the metals a rusty look. All in all I was quite impressed. To tell the truth, I had been dreading painting. I've seen all those great painters out there, and it was in fact http://scottswargaming.blogspot.co.uk/ Scott, that got me wanting to paint. His painting skills and terrain making skills have inspired me, and I too hope to be that good one day. But as I say, I'm quite happy with my paint job, I think it'll look good on the table, and I learned painting is actually quite addictive. So addictive, that I went on to paint three more at the same time!
My first goblin.

Rusty shield

Bit blurry but you get the idea.

And the other side.

This time I got a bit adventurous, and painted the tips of another sword goblin, and a spear goblin's weaponry red, from past conflicts. Here I must apologise, as the pictures aren't the best...

My first archer, using Mournfang brown for the quiver and bow.
From the back
You can just see the tip of red on his blade.

And last but not least, I went into Games Emporium, the local hobby shop, and fell victim to the well known 'Cannot go in without buying something' curse that shop if known for in that area. Until next time...
